Samhung Station (삼흥역) is situated along the Hyoksin line (혁신선) in Pyongyang. Because it is in-between the Kim Il Sung University and the University of Foreign Studies, many of North Korea’s best and brightest students use this station. Please refer to the map at the end of this feature to see the location.

The decor of Samhung Station focuses on motivating the youths that commute here daily. I have photographed all of the ceramic tile mosaic artworks you can find at this station.

Starting from the back, you will find the soviet-era style mural which celebrates the glorious country under the reign of President Kim Il Sung.

As you move down the station, you will see mosaics featuring youths pursuing various fields that may interest them, be it the military, industrial, agriculture, arts or sports. The subtle yet ever-present message is: “Whichever path you choose in life, do it for the glory of the nation.”
